Round and Round, the essay I made during the Magnum Workshop Brighton is added to my website.
Round and Round

Some of my Café con Piernas pictures will be published in Liebling Magazine, next issue.
“Liebling, the German word for “darling” is imbued with a sense of intimacy. Rather than being just another glossy magazine that deals with culture in a sterile and patronizing manner, Liebling interacts directly with our culture and its protagonists. It’s a magazine for all lovers of fashion, music, literature, design, film and well-written narratives.”

I participated in the Magnum Workshop Brighton. It was a very valuable week and gave me much to think about. For me the most valuable part were the questions asked about my photographic identity, the structuring of projects and stories and conceptual skills. This Magnum Masterclass was hosted at the University of Brighton as part of Photo Biennale 2008. As part of the discussion about photographic identity the question was raised if you think a photographic style can be forced. When you are passionate about your subjects your ’style’ will emerge automatically since it is part of our personality. Our personality reflects how we approach our subjects, what subject matter we choose to pursue. Photography for me becomes more and more a way to express my feelings, and it is less and less centered around photography. What do we want to tell, and how do we say it? Structuring a project can be quit overwhelming. The basis is to keep it simple. Hardcore editing is essential to not drift, divert or get distracted from your goal. Making a framework, centered around a clear idea and knowing what pictures you need to get in order to complete a story.
What is your identity, does your personality reflect in your personal work?
